James Paul Weaver was born December 24, 1914 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He died March 21, 1993 in Grass Valley, California. He married Carroll Bernice Werner on December 11, 1940 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Sgt. Weaver served with the 11th Bombardment Group (H), 42nd Squadron, belly gunner B-17, in the Pacific Theater including tours in the Solomon Islands and ground operations on Guadalcanal. He flew in the B-17 41-9216 (Alley Oop) with Kermit Messerschmitt’s crew during this time which, apparently, was one of the first planes to arrive and begin the process of securing what would become Henderson Field. He was at Hickam Field on December 7th, 1941 when the Japanese attacked.
The pictures and information was supplied by his grandson Jeff Weaver.
